Accelera, a division of Cummins focused on zero-emission solutions, is set to provide Chevron New Energies with a cutting-edge 5-MW electrolyser system. This system will facilitate the production of low carbon intensity (LCI) electrolytic hydrogen at Chevron’s facility in Lost Hills, California.
This collaboration underscores the strategic partnership between Cummins and Chevron, aimed at accelerating the adoption of hydrogen, renewable natural gas, and other environmentally friendly LCI fuels across commercial and industrial sectors in North America.
Utilizing two Accelera proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysers, the project will harness solar energy and non-potable produced water from Chevron’s existing assets at the Lost Hills Oil Field in Kern County to produce hydrogen on-site. The electrolyser system is expected to yield over 2 tons of green hydrogen daily at fuel-cell-grade purity. This quantity is sufficient to power 80 freight trucks for distances of up to 600 miles each, as highlighted by Accelera.
